Ruinous-Bringing or tending to bring ruin; destructive; disastrous:
The downpour of the past two days has been ruinous to the suburbs.

Quavered-to shake tremulously; quiver or tremble:Because his voice quavered and his eyes glistened, it did not seem a good time to ask who he was and where he was from.

Certitude-freedom from doubt, especially in matters of faith or opinion; certainty.

Notch-an angular or V -shaped cut, indentation, or slit in an object, surface, or edge.
